You Are Valid: The Journey of Self-Discovery Zine Release Party

Friday, January 11th

ICOSA is pleased to host Creative Action’s Color Squad teen program for their zine release party. Join us to celebrate the work’s release and meet the artists. This fun event will include live music, friendship bracelet crafting, pronoun button making, sketchbook/journal creating, identity-related arts activities, delicious rainbow-themed mocktails, and other treats.

Each year, Color Squad teen artists create a zine that reflects a yearly theme to allow space for each member to reflect on their personal exploration of the topic before creating a mural at the end of the school year.

This year's theme focuses on LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and the zine, "You Are Valid: The Journey of Self-Discovery," features artwork responding to the journey of self-empowerment and discovery and the topic of identity, and its validation or lack thereof.

Proceeds of the zine sale will benefit Kind Clinic and QueerBomb, two local, pro-LGBTQIA+ organizations.

Color Squad engages civic-minded teen artists to transform public spaces and explore relevant social issues through original murals, sculptures, art installations, zines, and more. Students collaborate with professional artists and community partners and build artistic, social emotional, and leadership skills as they research and design public art projects for the community.

The largest youth arts program in Central Texas, Creative Action's mission is to spark the academic, social and emotional development of youth through the arts. We believe that when youth develop their creativity, compassion, confidence, and critical thinking skills, build meaningful connections with peers and positive role models, they become successful adults who thrive in their careers and relationships and contribute to their communities.
