Vessel

Exhibition Dates: April 9th - May 8th, 2021

Alyssa Taylor Wendt and Brooke Gassiot present Vessel, an exhibition about inhabited forms. Through video installation, staged production stills, drawing, performance and sculpture, they examine the containers of spiritual and mnemonic residue. A sense of vitality and collective resilience comes through the work in a variety of forms. From garment to architecture to vessel, the pieces pull us closer while expanding the notion of our presence inside of time.

Alyssa Taylor Wendt is a multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker and curator who works in Austin, Texas and Detroit, Michigan. Her recent projects reference themes of ritual, animism, mysticism, inherited memory, architecture and history using video, sculpture, staged photographs and performance. Earning her MFA from Bard College, she has shown internationally since 2004, including Deitch Projects, Vox Populi, Co-Lab Projects, Third Man Records, Women and Their Work and the Fusebox Festival. Her three-channel video installation H A I N T premiered at the Visual Arts Center at UT Austin and was the Official Winner of the 2018 International Istanbul Experimental Film Festival. She is currently finishing her second master’s degree at Harvard in Museum Studies, as she plans to open a museum for cultural artifacts in 2023.
