Soundscapes

About

Soundscapes consists of sound works that will be played via an outdoor stereo system in the breezway space at the Canopy Complex (916 Springdale Road), from 5pm - 7am each day. Each month ICOSA will feature a new sound artist, curated from local and national artist submissions. Each monthly featured artist’s work will be played on a loop and will be accessible to the public free of charge. The Soundscape Project provides sound artists a unique and specific platform for their work, dedicated to the act of listening. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Serge Bulat: Mindscapes (The Inkblot Series)
Exhibition Dates: December 29, 2025 to February 18, 2026
Gallery Hours: Work activated from sunset to sunrise each day

ICOSA Collective is proud to present Mindscapes (The Inkblot Series) by Serge Bulat

About the Project:
For ICOSA, Bulat presents Mindscapes: The Inkblot Series – immersive sound works that invite listeners to pause, reflect, and recalibrate their expectations of sound. In this series, “nothing is as it seems”: recorded sounds no longer function in their usual form but are playfully transformed into layered, evocative experiences that stimulate imagination and active listening. Each composition unfolds like a sonic inkblot test, where shifting textures and resonances act as prompts for personal interpretation. Rather than prescribing meaning, the works open a contemplative space where audiences can discover the frequencies their minds respond to, revealing hidden connections between inner landscapes and shared environments.

About the Artist:
Serge Bulat is a Moldovan-American multidisciplinary artist and composer whose work bridges sound art, performance, and expanded listening. With a deep interest in field recording and environmental sound, Bulat transforms sonic landscapes into immersive experiences that explore how sound connects people, places, ecosystems, and histories. His practice spans continents and disciplines – from psychological installations and surreal game scores to radio projects and experimental albums. Bulat’s work has been recognized with the Independent Music Award for Best Electronic Album and an AEAF nomination for Best Music Video, and his research project Inkblot was published in the Brazilian scientific journal Vortex. He has presented internationally at festivals including Technarte (Spain), FILE (Brazil), Burning Man (USA), INT-ACT (Thailand), IMPACT: Art that Bears Witness (USA), Simultan Festival (Romania), and Video Art Forum (Saudi Arabia). Recent fieldwork in Cyprus and the Pyrenees informs his archival initiatives Phonomundi and the Cornershop series, reflecting his commitment to preserving aural heritage and reimagining how we engage with sound and the environments we inhabit. He has also participated in residencies in Turkey, Andorra, and France.
