“I like turtles.”
—Zombie Kid

“Turtles all the way down” describes an endless stack: one turtle standing on another, and beneath that, more turtles. Equal parts philosophical puzzle, mythology, and absurd image, it suggests a world built through infinite support.

Collective Intelligence explores this idea through drawing and ceramics. The vertical drawing Stack began as a simple prompt mailed to artists across the country: draw this turtle and send it back. The returned drawings were enlarged, traced by hand, and assembled into a towering scroll. The resulting column becomes a portrait of collective support, each figure supported by those around it

The ceramic works bring this inquiry into material and ecological systems. In Host, porous earthenware forms are seeded with plant life and left to evolve over time. As roots spread and water moves through the clay, the sculptures are gradually reshaped through erosion and regrowth.

Across these works, stacking becomes both method and metaphor: a way of thinking about how creative communities and living systems sustain one another.

More turtles. Endlessly.
